Jay Adams Godliness through Discipline book review


Jay Edward Adams (born January 30, 1929) is
an American, Reformed Christian author who has written more than 100 books. His books have been translated into 16 languages,
and he received his doctorate in preaching Here is a practical booklet for anyone who
wants to become a more godly person. Jay Adams shows clearly that, while there
is no such thing as instant godliness, genuine and lasting holiness is indeed possible. Beginning with Paul’s instruction in 1 Timothy
4:7, “you must discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness,” Adams explains how

Liberty comes through law, not apart from it. When is a train most free? Is it when it goes bouncing across the field
off the track? NO. it is free only when it is confined (if
you will) to the track. Then it runs smoothly and efficiently, because
that was the way that its maker intended for it to run. It needs to be on the track, structured by
the track, to run properly. You too need to be on the track. God’s track is found in God’s Word. In happily; you always get the corners knocked
off. There is a structure necessary for life; that
structure is found in the Bible. It is conforming to that structure by the
