Start- up training company wins award for Entrepreneurial Spirit

Hi, I’m Heather Broadhurst, I’m the Managing Director of Now U Know Training Ltd. We’re based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, our offices are situated in the Lymedale Business Centre, in Newcastle. We recently won the Business Boost Award for Entrepreneurial Spirit, for Newcastle -under-Lyme. Basically we can demonstrate that we are a growing within the borough, and are bringing something to the borough with that. My own personal story is that it hasn’t been an easy road to get here. I’ve come from a very corporate background, working for large, multi-national companies, where I’ve been a little fish, in a big pond, but had that that support network around me, so I’ve had staff that I’ve managed, but also a HR team and a legal team, and the first few days I was in Now U Know Training, it was like “Oh, I’ve got to do all this myself,” and it’s very, very overwhelming, and I’m not going to lie, there have been days when I’ve thought that I can’t do this, I can’t do this, I’m not doing this, and not wanted to come into the office, or even get out of bed sometimes, because it’s a frightening experience, I’m not going to lie. However, you know what, it’s just a matter of believing in yourself, you can do it, you can, you know you can, you wouldn’t have done it in the first place if you couldn’t, and having that belief in yourself, because you are what will make the business matter, and work at the end of the day. And also it’s key to surround yourself with good people, people you can trust that work with the same integrity that you do, and I couldn’t do it without Hannah, and the other team members that we work with: the trainers and the training providers, and it is just believing in yourself and them and your own values. I really really enjoy working within the [Lymedale] Business Centre. I just feel that it’s really nice to make connects with other people, and to really find out about their businesses. And I really feel that it’s a vibrant, dynamic place to be really, and place to work. I don’t see any reason why we would move out of Staffordshire, at this stage, and why we would ever need to in the future. We can continue offering our training services throughout the UK, from here. We would not need to move out of Staffordshire at all. There are a number of reasons why you’d stay in Staffordshire. Not least for the network that we’ve got, but it’s such a good cost-effective place to live. I live in a semi-rural area really, that’s only five minutes away from my office. It’s just beautiful, why would I want to move from there? We’ve got such lovely countryside on our doorsteps in Staffordshire, so when you do have your down-time, it’s a great place to live, as well as work.
