Training for Life

Is there anything more manly in life
that pumping iron? Think about it. Using barbells and dumbbells and free weights to achieve a chiseled body is something most guys have dreamt about at least
once in their life. For some of us that dream is still alive. Hey, do you mind if I work in with you? No, go ahead and get a quick set in. I’m almost done, anyhow. Your turn. Yeah, I think I’m done. Hey guys, Robbie Sondag here with little
Godly advice it’s for living a more meaningful life. Well I remember growing up seeing ads in the back of my comic books about a
skinny kid that got bullied on the beach until he developed a body like Charles
Atlas. Remember those ads? And I remember being impressed watching on TV Dr. Bruce Banner transform his body into a massive green superhero played by Lou
Ferrigno. And it wasn’t long later that Arnold Schwarzenegger impressed us with
everything from Conan the Barbarian to the Terminator. And who wouldn’t want to
have a body like The Rock or Thor or Aquaman? And while the Bible doesn’t talk about lifting weights or going to the gym, it does mention training in 1 Corinthians 9:25 where it says, “Everyone who competes in the games goes into
strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to
get a crown that will last forever.” You see guys aren’t born with bodies like
Chris Hemsworth or Jason Momoa. While they may have good genes, they have to
discipline themselves to train their bodies that look so amazing, which is
admirable. But this verse is telling us that while they might achieve trophies
and fame and fortune, none of its gonna last forever. Charles Atlas died a long time ago. And Arnold hasn’t competed in a Mr.
Universe in over 30 years. And even the actors who play superheroes eventually
get replaced. But as Christ followers we go into a different kind of strict
training. The kind of training that involves spiritual disciplines like
getting into the Word or praying or fasting or making wise decisions or
trying to please the Lord. Just as developing sculpted bodies takes years
of discipline, so does is living a life for the Lord. The difference is, we’re not
working for temporary trophies. We’re working for a crown that will last forever. So yes there is something more manly in
life than lifting weights. It’s developing a routine that gets you on track for
living a Godly life. And that’s something to pumps about. What the heck. Yeah, that ain’t happening. Hey guys, I’m well aware that many of you struggle to crack open the Word with any
kind of regularity, or even understand how it works. Well, here’s an idea. Why not make Manly Moments part of your regular weekly routine so we can chew on a verse
